We have extensive experience of undertaking digital and paper records management scoping, and of implementing recommendations across organisations. We are also accustomed to creating retention schedules, managing emails, and overseeing departmental closures and organisational mergers.

Cataloguing, Re-Packaging and Re-Housing

We have extensive experience of cataloguing and listing digital and paper collections, and of using bespoke databases such as CALM

and Adlib, or programmes such as EAD and Excel. We have extensive experience of undertaking survey work, and of appraising and weeding material. We also offer provide a re-packaging and re-boxing service for your archive and records. We are accustomed to managing archive, library and museum moves, and to advising on collection management systems such as Adlib and Calm.

Digitisation and 'Going Digital'

We offer a digitisation service, and undertake office transformations, from paper to digital.

Digital Preservation, Content Development and Software

We advise on digital preservation for records, on developing online collection content, and on selecting collections management systems (CMS) and digital asset management systems (DAMS) for your collections.

Business Cases, Strategy Documents and Project Management

We are accustomed to reviewing and creating business and forward plans. We are familiar with creating archive policies, with collecting policies, and with evaluating and creating bespoke recommendations for existing procedures, policies, users and projects.

We can undertake project management, as well as business planning, administration and financial management.

Evaluation and Monitoring

We are experienced evaluators and monitors for heritage projects

and activities.

Funding Application Support

We have extensive experience of supporting and contributing to funding applications, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund,

the Business Archives Council (BAC), the National Manuscripts Conservation Trust, the Wellcome Trust, and The National Archives (TNA) and The Pilgrims Trust 'Archives Revealed' programme.

Compliance

We can provide advice on managing your records or archive in compliance with Data Protection (GDPR), Freedom of Information (FOI), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and Copyright.

Social Media and Web Content

We can advise on and develop social media and web content. We can also research and implement cutting-edge options for archiving web-based content.

Monitoring Environmental Conditions and Preservation Assessment

We have extensive experience of monitoring and recommending storage conditions for archives and records. We can advise on the new BS 4971: 2017 and BS EN 16893: 2018 standards, as well as on preservation options. We can also carry out a preservation review to identify requirements.

Staff and Volunteer Management, Training and Coaching

We have extensive experience of undertaking staff and volunteer training, recruitment, management and supervision. We provide bespoke in-house training to volunteers and staff on aspects such as palaeography, Latin, listing and basic handling.

Consultant Archivist offers bespoke and professional advice at an affordable rate.

Audience Development, Education, Outreach and Exhibitions

We are accustomed to undertaking outreach work with schools, universities and groups, and to developing educational materials. We also undertake audience development. We are accustomed to designing and providing support for online and physical exhibitions.

Historical Research and Palaeography

We can undertake historical research. We also support historical research by data cleaning, transcription, and provide advice on palaeography (including Latin), and translation of German, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Dutch, Latin and Icelandic languages.

Archival Research for Academic and Commercial Purposes

We have almost two decades' experience of carrying out professional archival research. This is combined with expertise in historical research, professional archive research qualifications, and an established presence in history academia. If you are devising content for a conference, TV programme or book, we can deal with all your research and commentary needs. Our broadcasting and journalism experience means we are well primed to offer specialist cultural commentaries.
